very winter, Banderas Bay transforms into one of the Pacific’s most extraordinary gathering grounds — humpback whales migrating from the cold waters of Alaska to breed, give birth, and socialize in the warm, protected depths just offshore from Punta de Mita.

This is not a sightseeing cruise. This is a private safari on the open ocean, moving quietly through the water with a captain and naturalist guide who read the water, the blows, and the behavior of every animal we encounter.

Once we locate the whales, we spend approximately two hours in their presence — close enough to witness full breaches, tail slaps, and mothers guiding their newborn calves through the bay. Aboard, a hydrophone drops beneath the surface so you can hear them singing — one of the most visceral and rarely offered connections with these animals.

Dolphin pods frequently travel through the bay and join without invitation, riding alongside and moving freely through the open ocean.
