About this experience
A private 4-day / 3-night expedition in Magdalena Bay (Mag Bay), operated on request during the peak pelagic and sardine run season. For maximum comfort and seamless logistics, it includes private round-trip ground transportation directly from La Paz International Airport to our oceanfront base camp.
No prior freediving or spearfishing experience is required — full instruction is provided starting from beginner level. Ideal for exclusive private groups, couples and families.
Day 1 — La Paz pickup, transfer to camp, coastal freediving & spearfishing
- Private pickup at La Paz Airport (LAP) and a direct scenic transfer to Mag Bay (~3 hours)
- Arrival and camp check-in — welcome at the base camp, cabin or tent assignment and a light refreshment
- Afternoon dive session — safety briefing, gear fitting, breath-hold techniques and an introductory Spear Level 1 session in the calm esteros and mangroves
- 6:00 PM welcome Catch & Cook — fresh ceviche and sashimi preparation with the afternoon's catch, followed by an open-air dinner and campfire
Day 2 — Pelagic safari & the sardine run (striped marlin)
- 5:00 AM early coffee and private panga departure towards the open Pacific
- 5:30 AM – 12:00 PM pelagic safari — offshore navigation searching for active baitballs (sardine schools)
- Snorkel or freedive in open water alongside hunting striped marlin, sea lions, mahi-mahi, tuna and seasonal whale and dolphin pods
- 1:30 PM Catch & Cook — return to camp or a secluded beach stop for a wood-fired lunch featuring the day's pelagic harvest
- Afternoon at leisure — relaxation at camp, dune walking or kayaking through the mangroves
Day 3 — Offshore pelagic spearfishing & Santa Margarita Island
- 5:00 AM morning departure to the offshore Pacific hunting grounds
- 6:00 AM – 1:00 PM multi-activity expedition — ethical open-water spearfishing focused on target pelagic species (mahi-mahi, wahoo, yellowtail) tailored to the group's experience
- Marine safari — coastal navigation along sea lion colonies and migratory bird habitats around Santa Margarita Island
- 2:00 PM farewell Catch & Cook — a seafood banquet combining your fresh catch with local bay shellfish
Day 4 — Morning safari, camp check-out & La Paz airport drop-off
- 5:00 AM – 8:30 AM brief morning photo safari and snorkel in the mangrove channels before packing
- 9:30 AM farewell breakfast and camp check-out
- 10:30 AM private transfer back to La Paz Airport (estimated arrival at LAP: 1:30 PM for afternoon flights)
